We take hose safety seriously— because injuries and downtime aren’t an option. This Hose Safety Awareness Week, we’re sharing our know-how to help keep your operation safe, efficient, and on the job.

A small mistake with a hydraulic hose can have big consequences, from costly downtime to serious injury. Our experienced Kundinger Parker Store Managers are sharing their top safety tips to help keep you and your team safe and your machines running.

Follow these essential safety practices:

  • Turn It Off First: The most important rule is to shut down the system completely before attempting to stop a hydraulic fluid leak. Never try to service a pressurized system.
  • Relieve All Pressure: Before you disconnect any hose, make sure the system pressure has been properly and fully relieved. Do not “crack” fittings to bleed pressure—this is a dangerous shortcut.
  • Don’t Use Your Hands: Never attempt to block or stop a fluid leak with your hands or any other body part. High-pressure fluid can cause severe injuries.
  • Be Prepared for Spills: Before removing any lines, have fluid containment materials and the correct caps or plugs ready to go.
  • Clean Up Immediately: Spilled fluids create a slip-and-fall hazard. Clean up all spills right away to prevent secondary injuries.
  • Protect & Secure Your Hoses: Use protective coverings and proper clamping to prevent abrasion and excessive movement that lead to hose damage.
